Jean Paul Gaultier (SS.2008)

Product: Cream crochet cotton asymmetric dress with deconstructed details, tassel-trimmed sleeves, and detachable slip lining

Designer: Jean Paul Gaultier

Marked Size: IT 42 – FR 38 – UK 10

Material: 100% cotton (outer: open-knit crochet)

Tassel-trimmed sleeves and an irregular hemline complete the artisanal feel.

Closure: Pull-on style; slip with shoulder adjusters

Condition: Perfect vintage condition with no flaws, complete with original label.

Please note, as with all vintage pieces sold via Another Kind, this item may display very light signs of wear, which only enhance its unique character and history.

Place of Origin: Paris, France

Provenance: A signature ready-to-wear piece from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2008 collection—a season steeped in high-seas drama and pirate romanticism. The collection reimagined swashbuckling codes through a couture lens, fusing Belle Époque nostalgia with unruly femininity. In the now-iconic bridal finale, similar crochet garments were layered under leather waist belts and worn over lace-trimmed bloomers and cream petticoats. Styled with parasols, bonnets, and cigarettes, the looks blurred the line between innocence and provocation—casting the bride as both castaway and coquette in Gaultier’s neo-Victorian dreamscape.

Notes: Includes original detachable slip dress for optional coverage. Can be styled over lingerie, a bikini, or worn standalone for evening or bridal wear. Exceptionally versatile and collectible, a museum-grade example of Gaultier’s irreverent take on femininity, craftsmanship, and historical dress codes.

Status: Available for private purchase only, not offered for stylist pulls or rentals.
